Product Description

Due to popular demand, we have brought back the Sakuralele and are introducing it in a concert-scale long-neck soprano version! We have added a concert scale neck to the soprano body to provide the comfort of a concert-sized fretboard combined with the punch and percussiveness of a soprano ukulele. This unique ukulele has a cherry blossom design, is fitted with a strap button, and is strung with Aquila Sugar strings. This classy ukulele definitely stands out among the different designs of the Flight Travel ukulele.

Product Features

Thanks to a wide-arched ABS back, this baby has more volume in the middle range than your average soprano ukulele, while resonating more freely and sounding brighter. ABS is durable and resistant to humidity changes, which are the main enemies of a wooden ukulele.

The TUSL32 uses laminate linden wood for the sound board. Linden is characterized by a bright sound and sleek texture It also allows us to print our incredible designs on the sound board without compromising the sound quality of the instrument.

The neck and fingerboard are made from ABS plastic, a perfect solution for an entry level ukulele. ABS is resistant to climate changes. You will never experience a sharp fret or bent neck with any of our Travel ukuleles. The neck surface imitates a wood pattern, which adds a tactile playing experience to the instrument.

The rounded back construction of this ukulele made adding a strap button a necessity. The use of a strap will make your TUSL easier to hold—and Flight offers an awesome matching strap for the Sakuralele!

Headstock design is an integral element of all Flight ukuleles. The headstock veneer is made of linden wood to match the soundboard.

I grew up in Hawaii and have owned and played many different ukuleles over the years. This Flight long-neck doesn't compare with my $500 solid wood ukuleles, but it is surprisingly good for $50.Out-of-the-box, this ukulele comes with the white Aquila strings that are common in this price range and I think work particularly poorly on plastic ukuleles. The strings are thick and stiff and sound very plasticky when used on plastic ukuleles. You may want to experiment with different strings, but I replaced mine with Worth Brown flourocarbon strings (available at many ukulele specialty stores) and they make this ukulele sound much warmer and more well rounded. Also with plenty of volume and clarity. With the Worth strings, this is the best sounding plastic ukulele that I have tried. Better than the Enya Nova or Makala Dolphin or Outdoor soprano. It is even better than most wood ukuleles that I have tried for under $75. Admittedly, I have not tried any other long-neck ukuleles in this price range. The plastic body of this ukulele has a lot of advantages over wooden ukuleles, especially better durability from wear and tear and also better resistance to problems from heat and humidity.Playability of this ukulele is great for this price range. String height (action) is very comfortable at both the nut and bridge. The neck is a little wider and flatter than most imported ukuleles, which I think makes it easier to hold and play. The soprano-sized body of the ukulele makes it easy to hold, while the concert-scale neck gives you 14 frets to the body so intermediate players have more room for their fancier chords and finger picking. They do not include a cheap strap and tuner like some beginner kits, but realistically any aftermarket strap and tuner will work and the cheapies are poor quality (uncomfortable and/or not durable). Flight did pre-install a standard strap button to make attaching your own strap easy. Installing a strap button on a plastic ukulele is more complicated than on a wood ukulele, so I am glad this is pre-installed.I do have a few minor complaints. First is the strings are not a good choice for this instrument, as mentioned earlier. I wish the gig bag was more robust (thicker fabric and a little padding) and maybe a pocket for a tuner. This is a sturdy instrument, but more protection from bumps and scratches is always welcome. 3rd party gig bags for long-neck ukuleles hard to find and expensive and cheap concert-sized gig bags are way to baggy for this sleek instrument. I guess those are my main complaints and they are somewhat excusable for a $50 ukulele. The Flight TUSL ukulele comes in a few different models (TUSL-50, TUSL-35, TUSL-25). These are all identical except for the finishing on the front of the body. They all sound the same and cost about the same. Buy the one that looks best to you.
