Innovative Marine is proud to introduce HELIO, our new line of heaters utilizing ultra-safe PTC (positive temperature coefficient) technology. Up until now, the way we chose to heat our aquariums have been electric immersion heaters that use resistance wires as the primary source of heat. This is the same technology commonly used in toasters. When these types of aquarium heaters are exposed to air or become covered with debris, the heat is unable to dissipate quickly enough resulting in a rapid temperature spike, reduction in operation life and eventually catastrophic failure of the aquarium. When developing the HELIO, we looked at the aquaculture industry and how PTC technology was utilized. After scrutinized detailed analysis, we extrapolated how to efficiently heat (in both cost and thermal dispersion), as well as minimizing the danger of air exposure and for everyday use. PTC technology utilizes solid state ceramic chips that are programmed to reach only a certain predetermined set temperature. As compared to resistance wires that continuously increase in temperature until the element ceases. Error Code Quick Guide E1-Remote Sensor Not Connected The remote sensor is not connected. Check the connection between the controller and the remote sensor. E3-High Temperature Alarm The aquarium's water temperature has exceeded the high temperature set point.
E4-Low Temperature Alarm The aquarium's water temperature has subceeded the low temperature set point. This replaced a pair of heaters in my 14 gallon AIO reef tank. Those were glass heaters and continually became encrusted with sponges, raising a risk of cracking. Needless to say, this titanium heater has no risk of cracking.Good:Magnetic mounts for heaters and sensor with plenty of strength to hold in place.Heater mount holds element 1.5" from aquarium wall for maximum flow and eliminating cracking risk.Cables from the controller are about 8 feet long, plenty of length to mount anywhere you want.Easy to set up and use -- took about 60 seconds. High and low alarm set points easy-peasy.Temperature sensor is spot on (double checked with infrared sensor).Display clearly shows tank temperature and set point.Not so good:The temperature sensor has a low flow alarm, which is a very nice addition. However, the alarm goes off when I pause the return pump for feeding or water changes. The only way to stop this is a manual switch on the side of the controller, which disables all alarms. This introduces a risk if one forgets to turn the alarm switch back on after performing tank maintenance.The controller really should have an alarm pause button (~ 10 minutes) to eliminate this risk.All in all, the best heater I've ever used.
