Product Description Instead of sounding an alarm, the motion sensor sends a wireless signal to a pager carried by the caregiver (clipped to a belt or inside a pocket). This allows the caregiver to be notified wherever they are without disturbing residents. When positioned along the bedside the fall monitor will alarm as the resident attempts to vacate the bed. (extendable bracket is sold separately). Wireless sensor operates on 3 AA batteries. Pager operates on 2 AA batteries. Batteries not included.Optional AC Adapter: AC-04. A silent wireless signal is sent to the caregiver pager up to 300 ft away. This think is very annoying. Once I know someone is in the area, I don't need constant reminder. Better functionality would be to bling a couple of times, then wait a few seconds before blinging again. So, if someone is working in the area, you will naturally turn the device off or face down in such event it no longer functions. Now, if you forget to upright or turn it back on, your Mom walks out of the house and gets lost down the street! As Electronics Engineer I can say that it would have been an easy matter for them to add a timeout or "mode" switch to adjust the noise and repeat levels. Otherwise it works great- you can't sneak past it, range is good, and the batteries seem to be holding out pretty well. It will be interesting to see what happens when the batteries go dead- will it give notice or quietly die in the corner?Easy set up and functions as expected. The motion sensitivity is fine for a bedroom and is somewhat directional so that it can be placed near a bed so that it responds to a person getting out of bed but not if they move around in the bed. At least I was able to use it to monitor my mother this way. The only gripe is that the pager volume is very loud and to reduce the sound level I taped several layers of paper over the speaker to suppress the sound volume. Otherwise highly recommended.Would be five stars if it had volume control. We keep it under a cushion to muffle it a bit. It IS very effective and sensitive to subtle movement. Allowed us to have much more restful nights, not having to keep one eye open for our wandering senior!PROS: Wakes me up in time to get to Dad's bedside before he gets up and falls.CONS:,Can't let the cats in his room at night, can't really use as a chair alarm, sensor will pick up every move he makes while sitting, anyone who walks by, etc.Dad has dementia, and has become a fall risk when getting up every night without fail to use the bathroom. Needed an alarm to awaken me so I could get to him before he gets out of bed, as he has become increasingly unsteady upon awakening. Cannot teach him to use a night commode for obvious reasons (dementia!)At first, tried another wireless alarm- purchased the combination pack of chair pad/bed pad with wireless remote alarm. The alarm sound itself worked, but would not sound until a FULL FIVE SECONDS AFTER dad moved. Useless!! He could get up and be more than halfway to the bathroom by then, and have already fallen. Back to the drawing board. This is a very basic motion detector, but sensitive, and I have no trouble with the range of the wireless alarm box. I can take it anywhere throughout the house or to a point out in the yard, and still be assured the signal will be received. The wireless alarm unit is great, as the alarm does not sound in the patient's room, potentially startling them and causing a fall, which is what we are trying to prevent. The biggest challenge we had was figuring out placement of the motion sensor box itself; because it IS sensitive, you can't mount it high enough so that it will pick up every little movement, toss or turn of the person in bed, which it absolutely will. The key was to place it on the floor between the bed and the nightstand, facing down the length of the bed, so that as soon as Dad's foot hits the floor, the alarm sounds instantaneously, and I can get to him before he has even stood up. Pushed the bed against the wall so he can get out of bed only on that side. The alarm box has two volume settings, "loud as F" and "the dead shall rise up". Kidding, sort of. Lower setting sounds like an electronic doorbell (ding dong! ding dong!), very loud, wakes me every time, and I really do sleep like the dead. The second setting is an electronic snippet of the William Tell overture, and trust me, you will not need this setting unless you are truly hard of hearing and need a more extended sound. Considering many caregivers out there might truly be, this is a bonus. If you startle easily, avoid the loud setting unless you want to have to be scraped off the ceiling when it does go off!Even if I am awakened a few times a night, I'm still resting easier knowing that I can get to him immediately. I have set up an air bed in the next room over from his for proximity, and this has been working pretty well so far!Motion sensor hard to set. Before purchasing this, we were sleeping very lightly, trying to listen in for Dad to get up in the night so we could help keep him safe from falls. Now we can really go to sleep, knowing that the alarm will wake us if Dad's feet get near the floor. The remote is in our room so Dad doesn't have to hear it. We just appear, and he wonders how we knew he was getting up.We switch the remote off before going to help him. Some reviews have mentioned having to re-set the device. I don't know if my model is newer than those, but the only re-setting we do is to switch the remote back on (the part in our room) after assisting Dad. In his room, there is nothing to re-set; the motion sensor stays on all night. The alarm is very loud. Way louder than we need it to be in the middle of the night. We are experimenting with partially covering it with tape, etc.. A volume control would be REALLY nice, but for this wonderful device at a pretty nice price, I'm willing to have to experiment. One small inconvenience is that there is a little green light on the motion sensor that flashes when motion is detected. Since Dad's room is otherwise dark, this draws attention to the device, which confuses him a bit. I would put tape over it, but a customer service person told me that it begins to flash amber when the batteries are low, and I wouldn't want to miss that by covering it.Speaking of customer service - I went to the website and used the chat option to ask a couple of questions that weren't answered in the minimal directions. The person who answered understood my questions immediately and answered them thoroughly and politely. Five stars well-earned!!This motion sensor works great and is super fast to pickup motion. The pager is VERY loud and does not have a volume control which is a bit of an issues, but it does alert to motion. So glad I purchased this product.I bought 2 of these because my 91 year old father lives with me and has Alzheimer’s. I have one in his bedroom and the alarm in mine so I know when he gets out of bed in the middle of the night. As soon as he swings his legs over the side of the bed the alarm goes off and I can get up and help him. The 2nd one is at the front door so I know immediately during the day if he goes near the door and I can stop him from wandering outside. I love that they have two different alarm sounds so I know which alarm is gong off. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there is no volume adjustment on the alarm. This is a great product to use for an elderly person that wanders at night. It is very sensitive to motion so it took some adjusting of placement so that it would activate upon getting up out of bed rather than just moving in bed. It makes no sound in the bedroom so does not startle the individual but alerts the care aide. The only criticism is that the receiver has no volume control and it is very loud! We had to tape over the speaker to try to bring down the volume so that it does not wake up the entire household. An excellent Gazette for caregiver to Elders. My mother is 93yrs old, she is a case of Senile Dementia/Alzheimer's.I have installed this Gazette near her bed , so whenever she awake and about to leave the bed , this Gazette sounds immediately and makes me alert to help her , otherwise she may fall and can get injured.Even at night if you are sleeping , the beep awakes you and make you alert. This is a must for your loved one's who are quite old and always require help by some one/Caregiver , so that they should not remain unattended.Packing was too good and batteries were already installed. This is used in a bedroom for my mother who has dementia. I have it mounted so that if she starts to walk towards the end of the bed (usually to go to the bathroom), the pager will sound at someone can watch and make sure she does not fall. The pager is quite loud so it was places in a shelf with clothes on top so that it is not too loud at night. It works very well and is doing it's job. I did purchase an optional power adapter for the main unit so that it does not need battery replacements. The power adapter is: HQRP AC Adapter for Kerr AC-04 PDUR41120-50 Smart Caregiver Power Supply Cord + HQRP Euro Plug AdapterTee unit is very sensitive and does allow you to know when the patient is awake.I would give 5 stars if you could control the volume on the pager as it is virtually impossible to use this without waking anyone else in the house. My girlfriend and I used it with her father who has Parkinson's and some sun-downing at night and even if I was the one on shift, it would wake her up even when I slept in a different room. Also, rather than simple chines, it is along and protracted tune which is completely unnecessary. I read previous reviews about this issue but thought it was exaggerated. It is not....
