These sharpeners are some of the sharpest I have used, and sharp manual ones are generally harder to locate. They sharpen pencil tips to very fine points, which can be dangerous to handle, if not careful. Therefore, these are more suitable for the 18+ crowd than for younger school-age children.Also, with some sharpeners, I notice that once a pencil has reached a certain optimal point, the sharpeners will stop shaving it, even though I continue the sharpening process. This is apparently not the case with these School Smart (SM) tools. When a pencil tip has achieved a weapon-sharp tip, an SM sharpener continues to let you shave it further. In fact, after my first try, I ended up breaking off part of the sharp tip, to avoid an accidental stabbing. In order to avoid wasting graphite needlessly, one should remove the pencil and inspect from time to time, and stop the process promptly.I like these little sharpeners, but I'll be more careful with them in the future. I suppose the price is right, but spending more than $10 for manual sharpeners is difficult to justify. I'd suggest offering smaller packages of 6 units each instead of 12.
