Some time ago, after suffering inconsistent recipe results, I changed to measuring my ingredients by weight instead of volume. This greatly improved the consistency of results, though it took me a while to find resources for converting volumes of various ingredients to weight units. It turned out that there are several websites that offer this conversion information. For most of my cooking, scales that will weigh up to 5 or 6 kilograms (yes, I switched to metric in the process, as well) are just fine, as they have good resolution down to about one gram. But for the smaller ingredients (like the various seasonings), these larger scales just are not precise enough. This digital "pocket" scale is just the thing for that issue. It has a precision down to 0.01 grams, so measuring tiny amounts of seasonings is no longer a problem. Also, because it has a measuring range up to 500 grams (over a pound) and has a tare function, you can measure out several different seasonings into one container and then add the accumulated mix of seasonings all at once.Precision and accuracy of this scale is quite good. I have a handful of standard gram weights ranging from 2 to 250 grams, and this scale always read within 1/10% of the standard weight. The scale has several different weighing units, like ounces, grams, carats, grains, and it's easy to switch between those units (though I rarely do that and just stick with grams for most things). It also has a counting function if you need to count things like a handful of ball bearings (another function I almost never use). The scale is easy to use, has a nice backlight function for dim light conditions, and the protective lid can be removed to use as a weighing tray if necessary.
