I bought the light shade so this review is for that, not the light-medium: I didn't believe for one second that it would or could work, but it did, and it's beautiful. I have some redness on my cheeks but it covers it well, the finish is soft and not matte, but more satiny or natural. Not oily or shiny either. Just very natural. For those who complain that it shows all the dry skin on their face, of course it does, like any foundation will, if you have dry skin or dry patches. I was always taught to moisturize my face before applying foundation - not primers, nothing fancy, just some kind of moisturizer. It only makes sense. And that's what I've always done, so dry patches showing up through foundation has never been a problem for me. I use a very basic unscented lotion, I have sensitive skin, so I use only Cetaphil lotion on my face, let it sink in for a minute, then this, and what I end up with is a very natural look, but better than a tinted moisturizer, but not a mask like ordinary foundation, and it matches my skin perfectly (light-neutral is my skin color). I don't even have to use any undereye concealer, and I do have some dark circles - this make up covers so well, it covers the circles. I love the mousse consistency, I love the exact color match, love the coverage, love that it's fragrance free so my allergies don't kick up, and I love the finish. I am surprised at the mixed reviews; this is excellent make up at a bargain price and I highly recommend it to anyone. This foundation elicited a compliment from my waxer when she cleaned my face and saw makeup on the cotton pad. She told me the makeup looks so natural that she didn't know I was wearing any. This foundation goes on whiteish but easily blends to match my combination-to-oily skin. It has a creamy, mousse-like texture, which allows me to start light and blend heavier where I need it. It's not a full-coverage foundation but not sheer like tinted moisturizer. It has a matte finish that sometimes means I don't need powder, and it never appears to settle or cake.Beautypedia recommends using a brush or sponge for the most hygienic application. I agree but cannot get this to work with my foundation brush. I use my clean fingers and end up having slightly smelly product in the jar about halfway through. As far as I can tell, the foundation doesn't get so unhygienic that it causes a problem for my face. This product is light and airy and easy to apply. You can apply this with either your fingertips or a sponge very easily. I have not tried with a brush but I assume you probably could. It is a mousse makeup so it is very airy and light but gives good coverage and a little goes a long way. It gives light to medium coverage (more towards medium than light) and goes on white and as it is being spread it turns color to match your skin. I am very fair and this matches my skintone perfectly. It blends very well with my color and matches well, and I have rosacea and it covers the red patches well.It feels great on my face. It does not irritate my rosacea, which is saying a lot as most foundations do to some extent. This is one of only a couple that I can wear for any length of time without irritating my eyes also.I really like this makeup but the stores stopped selling it and now I go to amazon to purchase it and it's like 60 dollars that is ridiculousI use this makeup 5-6 times a week and apply it once in the morning. I bought this to replace my usual light-weight coverage makeup that was being discontinued. I was very hesitant to try this as I was afraid of looking washed out because of the smart shade technology and the mouse consistency. The first time I put it on I think I applied too much and felt very dew-like all day. However, after a couple of months of consistent use I think this is one of the best light coverage makeups I've used. I do use the smart shade loose powder with it, too. Blending is perhaps on the biggest tricks to learn as you will have to "blend" the makeup to activate the smart shade. I usually create a small blobs in the center of my face and work out.I am 60 years old and in my youth I was a strawberry blonde. I could use any makeup I wanted. Since I have the red head gene my face gets reader ever year. My cheeks are read at normal body tempature and when I get hot they turn bright read and my face gets real hot. This is the only makeup I have found to tone down the redness in my face. The green primer does nothing for me, it just does not work on my red skin. The product is great for toneing down the red in my cheeks. Thanks Almay!Excellent product. Light! WHY WOULD THEY DISCONTINUE THIS PRODUCT?!!! They have a brand on the shelves which contains sunscreen. It is heavy and not close to the excellent, light, natural finish of this one. Also, MANY of us use only natural sunscreen and don't buy products with sunscreen already in it because of the chemicals, or simply wish to apply it ourselves and NOT have it in the make up. If any one in position to do at Almay sees this review... PLEASE bring this product back to the shelves!!I ordered it online for twice the price of the on shelf product. It was still worth it!It does have a natural looking coverage like other reviews mention and matched my skin tone well. With the acne version, I use Sand as my color--which is one of the darkest that Almay offers--but it looks pasty on my golden skin tone. This makeup managed to match it very well using the light medium. However, I have acne prone skin and I did end up greasy with a little bit of breakout by the end of the work day. I will try to remember to use some oil absorbing rice powder sheets tomorrow to see if that helps. This is so easy to use you can put it on without a mirror and it's perfect! Very light but leaves a lovely soft finish with good coverage. The first time i used it i used far too much. A pea size is plenty. The only down side is that it doesn't sit evenly on the face all day and i had to powder over a couple of times. To be honest i tried a sample of a designer foundation that did the same! I can't see any SPF in it either but for the cost it is as good as any other high street. Good buy! After a disastrous reaction to VERY expensive face serum, I tracked this down remembering it as hypoallergenic from my youth..what a find!!! Forget spending £50 on a foundation, at week under tenner this is every bit as good. Don't be put off by how white it looks, the colour matches my fair skin better than most I have used and no nasty streak marks.I adore this makeup. It is very light, easy to apply and matches my skin tone and covers my blemishes. I feel as though I am not wearing a foundation.I like this foundation. Starts of white and then brush and it becomes a lovely skin match,One of the best foundations I have ever used its white to start with then it adapts to my fair skin tone and doesn't go too dark
